Mission

The Consultative Committee for Electricity (CCE) was set up in 1927. Its name was changed to Consultative Committee for Electricity and Magnetism by the CIPM in 1997.

The mission of the CCEM is to foster equivalence and global interoperability, and promote the harmonization of electromagnetic measurements within the SI, by providing:

  • an international forum for the coordination of global comparability of electromagnetic measurements and digital dissemination of results, and
  • collective leadership in progressing science and seamless integration of electrical metrology in our society.

The CCEM provides advice to the CIPM on matters related to electrical standards. The CCEM plays a guiding and coordinating role in the new advances in electromagnetic metrology that take place at the NMIs and the BIPM. It identifies measurement challenges for NMIs through CCEM strategy documents and the work plans of the CCEM Working Groups. The CCEM organizes workshops and selected technical presentations in key emerging areas, involving recognized experts. It leads the implementation of the CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) in the field of Electricity and Magnetism. The CCEM reviews the work programme of the BIPM electricity laboratories.
